Hey guys! Hope November has started off well for you all! I just got back from a short trip to the coast and it was absolutely lovely. I ate too much food, hiked through redwood forests and walked along beaches and coastal bluffs, and bought things like key lime taffy and rose and hibiscus jelly, so yeah- it was good.
This weeks topic was an easy one, which is good, because I mostly forgot to write this until the last minute, and after a five hour drive home, well… let’s just say I’m a bit worn out. Also my cat will not stop meowing, I might have to fight him, but gently, because he’s very smol. Under the cut there’s quotes from all over the place, including but not limited to Howl’s Moving Castle, The Starless Sea, and The Princess Bride…
Top Ten Tuesday is Brought to you by That Artsy Reader Girl.
“Death first to vultures and scavengers.”
Tamsyn Muir, Gideon the Ninth
“Be brave,’ she says. ‘Be bold. Be loud. Never change for anyone but yourself. Any soul worth their star-stuff will take the whole package as is and however it grows. Don’t waste your time on anyone who doesn’t believe you when you tell them how you feel.”
Erin Morgenstern, The Starless Sea
“Give yourself away sometimes, sweetheart, There’s so much of you.”
Casey McQuiston, Red, White & Royal Blue
“No can always be changed to yes, but it’s very hard to change yes to no.”
Tamora Pierce, The Woman Who Rides Like a Man
“Your name is a golden bell hung in my heart. I would break my body to pieces to call you once by your name.”
Peter S. Beagle, The Last Unicorn
“I’m going up to my room now, where I may die.”
Diana Wynne Jones, Howl’s Moving Castle
“Most maidens are perfectly capable of rescuing themselves in my experience, at least the ones worth something, in any case.”
Erin Morgenstern, The Night Circus
“I have always felt that violence was the last refuge of the incompetent, and empty threats the last sanctuary of the terminally inept.”
Neil Gaiman, Neverwhere
“Where you tend a rose my lad, a thistle cannot grow.”
Francis Hodgson Burnett, The Secret Garden
“You were already more beautiful than anything I dared to dream. In our years apart, my imaginings did their best to improve on you perfection. At night, your face was forever behind my eyes. And now I see that that vision who kept me company in my loneliness was a hag compared to the beauty now before me.“
William Goldman, The Princess Bride

Sleep deprived and anxious, wandering the Sierra Nevada Foothills and trying to calm down enough to write some fantasy or sci-fi. I hike, read, sing, do needle felting, and am teaching myself how to play the mountain dulcimer. I also play video games when I should be doing something else.

That quote from Howl’s Moving Castle breaks my heart. I had a harder time on this list than I thought I would because I wanted to make sure I knew which character said the quote and my memory isn’t what it used to me. Hence I chose quotes from books I’ve read several times. Ha! My character quotes

Isn’t it so good!? I love Howl and Sophie’s relationship so much, and it was a great intro into Jones’ writing, too! I’ve read a handful of her books now, and they are all so delightful!

Aww, these are heart warmingly good. Esp. Night Circus and Secret Garden. I read the quote from Pierce, and I had to think about it — but I think she’s right. Very much harder to change a yes to no!

I’m glad you enjoyed your trip. And I hope your cat forgave you, and you didn’t have to fight him too much.
